On 5 th December 2007, a ceremony was held at UTE to recognize the apprentices who had achieved the highest marks in CASTT program. CASTT stands for Caterpillar Apprentice Service Technician Training which is the Cat certified training course owned and deployed by Caterpillar Learning division.
CASTT Program in brief

- 3 year course
- Theory and practical teaching
- Assessment by written exam and practical competency test
- Conducted by foreign trained instructors who have undergone Caterpillar Trainer and Assessor Program (CTAP).
- Aimed at developing the next generation technicians meeting the highest standards of Cat Technicians worldwide.
At present UTE has 8 apprentices who are undergoing their 2 nd year of CAST training. Awantha Danushka (97 marks) & Kasun Senadhira (92 marks) were the top achievers in their batch. They were given special gifts by Mrs. Christine Fernando,MD during this ceremony. Addressing the gathering Mrs. Fernando stressed the importance of English Language not only as a medium of learning but also with the fact that they might be required to work in any part of the world as Caterpillar dealers are no longer bound by their national boundaries in their pursuit in providing an exceptional service.
Mr.Priath Fernando, Chairman, made a speech in which he lauded the progress UTE service division has made over the years. He attributed UTE's recent award of Business Superbrand Status mainly due to the contribution made through excellence in service.
